Expectations

1) It is OK to find something unclear and confusing—All unclear points and confusing points should be listed so the class can discuss.

2) It is NOT ok to be unprepared.   We are scientists.  If you have no desire to be a scientist, please drop this class!

3) Always bring with you either a hard copy of the discussion paper or your notebook computer with the discussion paper so that we can refer to particular pages.

Points for Discussion Leaders

1) State problem with available information.

2) Outline/flowchart method.

3) It is usually not a good idea to attempt to cover everything in the paper.  You can choose to present the simplest case that contains the fundamental issues. Or you may choose to present just the part of the paper you find interesting. It is better to cover a little thoroughly than much superficially!

4) Meet with me prior to your presentation; my office hours are Wed. 3pm-4pm in 2068, Institute for Social Research, 426 Thompson St. (near Fleming).

5) Plan to speak at most 45 min.
